public land is great hunting and also hard hunting because of the hunting pressure but the good news is there is usually nice game on public land and even a few nice trophys!

Wear lots of blaze orange clothing. Sit with your back against something bullet proof like a big tree or boulder.

Go to the location a few weeks before you hunt. Scout the area for turkeys. Sit down and call a few times a week with the intentions of scouting only instead of hunting. The reason you'd wanna scout first instead of shooting the first bird you see, is there may be a really nice sized bird in your area, but you may lose the opportunity of baggin that bird if you get too trigger-happy instead if being patient. Ask the locals what property is huntable and ask around for help on where to go in your area. There's a lot of hunter's that are afraid of giving away their secrect spot, but some may actually be willing to help you out and point you in the right direction.
